Since 1993, Westbay Animal Hospital leads by combining compassionate care with the latest in medical technology and treatment. Our friendly, experienced staff will provide your pet both general pet care services and advanced medical care. Services include vaccinations, dentistry, laser and traditional surgery, weight management, microchip identification, laser therapy, and boarding.   • Sheila Scroggins, DVM

    Practice Owner
    Dr. Scroggins is the owner of Westbay Animal Hospital. She graduated from Louisiana State University with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1987. She opened Westbay Animal Hospital in 1993. Dr. Scroggins is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Florida Veterinary Medical Association, and the Manatee County Veterinary Society. Dr. Scroggins has two golden retrievers named Mahi and Maddie and a cat named Roger. In her spare time she enjoys playing tennis, golfing, fishing, and boating.
  • Mary Smart, DVM

    Dr. Smart attended the University of Florida and graduated with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1985. She joined Westbay Animal Hospital in 1998. Dr. Smart is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Florida Veterinary Medical Association, and American Heartworm Society. She is also a past President of the Manatee County Veterinary Society. Dr. Smart has a soft spot for dachshunds and has two of her own named Ray and Lily. She also has a cat named Tigger and a horse named Chief. Outside of work, Dr. Smart enjoys spending time with her family, boating, bicycling, and spending time at the barn with her daughter.

    Office Manager
    Pam graduated from the University of South Florida with her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business. She has worked at Westbay Animal Hospital since 2002 and has been the office manager since 2007. Pam enjoys the challenge of overseeing the day to day management of Westbay Animal Hospital and works hard to ensure everything is in order. Aside from working at Westbay, Pam stays busy as the co-owner of Duffy’s Tavern and as a member of her husband’s motorcycle racing pit crew. She has one dog-a boxer named Scotch.
  • Emily Harry

    Veterinary Technician/Kennel Manager
    Emily graduated from Manatee High School in 2006 and she has worked at Westbay since 2004. She is both a veterinary technician and the kennel manager at Westbay. As the kennel manager, her job is to make sure everything runs smoothly in the kennel and that all of the boarders are happy and comfortable. Emily has a cat named Manny and a pekingese mix named Gidget. Her hobbies include going to the beach, shopping, reading, and going to the movies.
  • Ashley Houghton

    Veterinary Technician
    Ashley has been a part of the Westbay staff since 2006. She is currently attending St. Petersburg College and working towards her Associate's Degree in Veterinary Technology so she can accomplish her goal of becoming certified. She enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine, but especially enjoys surgical assisting and nutrition. Ashley has four dogs-a black lab named Murphy, a pit bull named Gracie, a dachshund mix named Annie, and a catahoula leopard dog named Hunter. She also has two cats named George and Charlie. When she's not working, she enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and pets, paddle boarding, and horseback riding.

    Kennel Assistant/Veterinary Technician Assistant

    Anyvette joined the Westbay staff in October 2015. She currently works as a kennel assistant and enjoys spoiling and taking care of the boarders. Her goal is to continue her education and become a veterinary technician. Anyvette has three dogs: a maltese named Bella, a poodle named Benji, and a yorkie named Lola. When she's not working, she likes working out, playing tennis, reading, and spending time with her family and pets.
